Tucked away in Southern Italy, Puglia, or ‘Apulia’ is a region known as the country’s ‘heel of the boot’. With a relaxed and laid-back charm, Puglia is scattered with charming seaside villages (Otranto, Gallipoli), fascinating towns (Alberobello, Ostuni), and sun-bleached sand beaches. And when it comes to Puglia food, hearty baked dishes, simple plates of pasta (like the famous orecchiette) and wilted wild greens such as chicory or cime di rapa are among the region’s most famous foods, while the rich string cheese burrata and bread from Altamura are enough to justify a direct trip to the area.
