“Quality Tourism in Italy: New Trends, New Destinations, New Style” by Dr. Cristina Loglio.
On Sunday, January 26th, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting an engaging and insightful event, “Quality Tourism in Italy: New Trends, New Destinations, New Style,” presented by Dr. Cristina Loglio. Held both on Zoom and in person at the Italian Cultural Society headquarters in Bethesda, this lecture captivated attendees with an in-depth look at the evolving landscape of Italian tourism.
Dr. Loglio’s presentation drew inspiration from the latest research by the Touring Club Italiano, recently celebrated during its 130th-anniversary event in Rome with the President of the Republic in attendance. She highlighted how Italy continues to lead global travel preferences as the most desired destination, surpassing the United States and France. However, the lecture also addressed the challenges of overcrowding in iconic cities such as Rome, Florence, and Venice, and explored innovative solutions to promote alternative destinations.
Participants were introduced to Italy’s hidden gems, including characteristic villages, small islands, scenic walking and cycling routes, cultural festivals, and gastronomic itineraries. These less-traveled destinations offer a unique and authentic immersion into Italian culture, embodying the charm of “slow travel.”
The conversation also touched on the upcoming Jubilee Year, emphasizing the significance of religious destinations as treasures of art, history, and culture, and their growing appeal to travelers seeking meaningful experiences.
After the lecture, guests enjoyed light refreshments and a celebratory toast to the New Year, adding a festive and convivial touch to this enriching afternoon.
