CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI, FATHER OF OPERA
This Zoom event, entitled “Claudio Monteverdi, The Father of Opera – where music joins literature”, was presented by David Flaxman, and our ILP esteemed Professor of Early Italian Literature Annelise Brody Morani. They told the story of Claudio Monteverdi and his “invention” of the modern opera in 1607. We played excerpts from two of Monteverdi’s most important works, as well as some of his madrigals, and we had the pleasure to listen to Professor Brody Morani introducing some of the most important works of the great Italian poet, Torquato Tasso. Monteverdi and Tasso are two of the most important figures in Italian culture.
