Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have reached our $30,000 goal and were able to bring immediate relief to Italian Red Cross personnel and volunteers on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic in Northern Italy. Since the campaign started on March 16, we transferred funds daily as follows:
The first $10,000 went to the Italian Red Cross of San Donato Milanese, which from the beginning has been at the forefront of the Covid-19 emergency response in Milan, serving a vast hard-hit region in and South of the city.
The second $10,000 went to the Italian Red Cross of Bergamo Centro, the city near Milan that has become the worst hit by the novel coronavirus in Italy.
The third $10,000 went to “Bergamo Ovest,” a second local chapter of the Italian Red Cross in Bergamo–one that serves many small towns West of the city decimated by the virus.
Any additional funds raised will be split between the three Italian Red Cross local chapters that we have been supporting throughout this very difficult time (San Donato Milanese, Bergamo Centro and Bergamo Ovest).
Money is being used to buy critical equipment and materials, in particular ffp ⅔ masks, surgery masks, gloves, disinfectant and tyvek personal protective equipment, as well as oxygen tanks to assist the ill in their homes.
The coronavirus outbreak tearing through Italy has turned a nation that is known for donating medical expertise and equipment abroad into a country in need. While there have been glimmers of hope that the worst may have passed, the situation on the ground in Lombardy remains dire. Hospitals are still at a saturation point. Health workers continue to describe immense pressure and war-like conditions in the fight to treat patients. Our help is making a huge difference in the small communities we are supporting!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Dear friends,
I will attempt to write a few words even though my heart is full of emotions and words of gratitude for all of you, so the words will actually be more than just a few.
Over the course of not many hours, your initiative has already raised a very important amount of money! Thank you for your generosity, for your closeness, for your affection.
My name is Elisabetta and I have been an Italian Red Cross volunteer for over 20 years. I work in ambulances where we provide emergency services and other forms of assistance.
Never as in this last month have I been afraid of doing what I’ve been doing for a lifetime; never would I have imagined that Italy, my country and Milan, my city, could go through this type of tragedy.
In a matter of days the situation has degenerated, in the hospitals the intensive care units are full of Covid-19 patients and we are starting to run out of steam and resources. We volunteers are engaged in the transportation of the ill and we do have some individual protective gear, but the biggest fear right now is that supplies and manpower won’t be enough to cover this emergency.
Your help is immense and I am so grateful to you for it.
I hope to be able to meet you all and hug each and every one of you in person one day.
Be brave and careful, always!
Elisabetta

We are extremely grateful to all your help and support. Together, we sent a huge help to the Italian Red Cross – Downtown Bergamo. Please, read the following thank you message from Paola Pesenti Bolognini, Delegata Area Sviluppo of the Italian Red Cross of Downtown Bergamo.
To our American friends:
On behalf of all of us, personnel and volunteers of the Italian Red Cross of Bergamo, I wish to express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of donations that we are receiving. Your nearness, despite the “oceanic” distance, is felt by each one of us and allows us to think about how strong solidarity can be at this difficult time.
A virtual hug to all of you and GRAZIE, GRAZIE, GRAZIE! ❤
