Archaeology is much more than the study of ancient ruins—it is an ongoing dialogue between the past and the present. Every discovery has the power to reshape how we understand civilizations, cultures, and daily life throughout history.
Italy remains one of the world’s richest archaeological landscapes, where new excavations and findings continue to reveal fresh perspectives on the country’s layered past—from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
Guiding the evening was Dario Penzo, he studied Ancient Civilizations, Literature, History, and Archaeology at Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia and currently works at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC. Through images, storytelling, and discussion, he brought Italy’s archaeological heritage vividly to life in an engaging and accessible way.
Inspired by this spirit of discovery, the Italian Cultural Society of Washington hosted Aperitivo Archeologico, an informal and engaging evening exploring recent archaeological discoveries across the Italian peninsula.
The evening concluded with Prosecco and aperitivo refreshments, creating a welcoming atmosphere where guests could connect through history, culture, and conversation in both English and Italian.
